This page describes information handled by the website application. It does not describe separate hosting or web-server logs, which depend on the deployment.

Guide comments

If you comment on a guide, we store the display name and comment for editor review. Approved comments and display names are visible to the public. An email address is optional, is kept private, and is not shown with the comment. Do not include sensitive personal or account information in a comment. Editors can reject or remove comments; removed comments are deleted from the application database but may remain in backups until those backups expire.

Information you submit

The contact form stores your email address and message so editors can review and reply. The correction form stores your message, optional page path and optional email address. These submissions are visible to authorized editors and reviewers in a private admin area. No automatic deletion is enabled. If the site owner adopts a retention period, the maintenance command can preview and remove only resolved or closed submissions older than that period; open and reviewing submissions are preserved. Deleted messages can remain in database backups until those backups expire. The application does not send confirmation email.

Search and security

Search analytics store the search text, result count and time. Common patterns that look like email addresses, URLs, phone numbers or account numbers are excluded from analytics. Search logs are scheduled for deletion after 90 days. Search and form rate limits use a temporary keyed value derived from the client IP address; the application does not place the raw IP address in its search or feedback tables.

Aggregate site analytics

The site also counts public page views and selected interactions, such as tool submissions and external-link clicks. These are added directly to daily totals grouped by application page type, broad device category (including recognized bots) and broad referral category. For a small number of public content routes, the content slug is included to distinguish which guide or service was viewed. The application does not store individual analytics events, visitor IDs, analytics cookies, full page or referrer URLs, query strings, form values, browser fingerprints or raw IP addresses in this analytics table. Aggregate analytics are retained for up to 13 months. Hosting providers may separately keep server logs under their own policies.

Administrative login and form protection use a session cookie. The public correction and contact forms use a session for form protection and success messages. Public pages do not require an account.

Advertising and cookies

When advertising is enabled on eligible guides, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google and its partners may use advertising cookies to personalize ads based on those visits. You can manage personalized advertising in Google Ad Settings. You can also learn about choices for other participating vendors at YourAdChoices.

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising is enabled only after a Google-certified consent platform has been configured. Its message explains the advertising partners and lets you make the choices it offers. If ads are not enabled, the site does not load the AdSense tag.

Questions

Use the contact form for questions about information you submitted. Do not include sensitive identity documents or account numbers in a message.
